1.2 SB-CEUs are available from the Michigan Department of Education. You must attend BOTH days to get SB-CEUs.
General certificates of attendance will be given out. There are a total of 12 hours of lecture for the entire conference.

Nurses
All CEUs authorized by IACET (International Association for Continuing Education and Training) are available for this
activity.  Individuals wishing to earn CEUs are advised to check with their certification body, licensure agency, and/or
employer to determine if these CEUs can be used to satisfy specific requirements.  The AAC website is

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations made within two weeks of the conference will receive no reimbursement. Substitutions are allowed. For
checks and purchase orders, cancellations made prior to the two weeks before the conference will be subject to a $30
administration fee. With online registration, cancellations made prior to the two weeks before the conference will be
charged a $15 administration fee. No refunds will be made for those cancelling during the two weeks before the
conference. No exceptions. Cancellations will be accepted only in writing.

Meals:
Lunch will be on your own. Breakfast and an afternoon snack are included in your registration fee.

Books:
We will have an extensive ASD bookstore at the conference. Purchase orders, Visa, MC, checks and cash are accepted.

Graduate Credit:  (Parents not eligible)
Workshop participants may choose to earn graduate credit from Silver Lake College for extending the knowledge and
skills gained in the workshop to an independent and authentic application of theory to practice within his/her relevant
educational and/or professional setting. Some workshops are available for either one (1) OR two (2) graduate credits;
other workshops are available only for one (1) graduate credit. Please refer to the credit registration form and the
syllabi regarding the credit options available.

Social Skills Training and Frustration Management, with Jed Baker, Ph.D.
Specific, user-friendly strategies and techniques for providing relevant social skills instruction
to children and teens with ASD will be shared at this workshop. Enjoyable socialization
methods are emphasized so individuals may experience success and desire to build skills.
Social deficits affect life at home, school and eventually in the workplace. Conference
participants will learn both highly beneficial strategies that can be used across a variety of
settings and routines; and practical and effective solutions to assist 'typical' peers, family
members and professionals to become more understanding, accepting and engaging of those
with social difficulties.

Participants will learn:
-The reasons for social skill deficits and disruptive behaviors in children with social
communication problems
-Strategies to deal effectively with meltdowns and tantrums
-How to put together an effective behavior plan for repeat problems
-How to put together a social skills training program in schools or at home
-Strategies for teaching and generalizing social skills in-group or one on one situations
-How to create programs for typical peers to accept students with disabilities and model
positive behaviors

Differentiating Instruction in Inclusive Classrooms, with Paula Kluth, Ph.D.
This presentation focuses on planning lessons for all in a diverse inclusive classroom.
Participants will learn how to modify curricula and instruction for students with autism and
other disabilities. Specifically, participants will explore how to use a wider range of formats
(including at least 5 different active learning structures), create more relevant lessons,
increase instructional strategies, set up a comfortable classroom, and develop better and
more responsive materials. Literacy will be a special focus of this day-long workshop.  

Participants will learn:
-How some individuals with autism see and experience schooling
-The benefits of inclusive schools for students with autism
-Active learning techniques appropriate for K-12 classrooms
-Ideas for adapting lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners
-How to create a "strengths & strategies" profile for a student with autism
-How to improve literacy instruction for students with autism
