Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations made within two weeks of the conference will receive no reimbursement. Substitutions are allowed. For
checks and purchase orders, cancellations made prior to the two weeks before the conference will be subject to a $30
administration fee. With online registration, cancellations made prior to the two weeks before the conference will be
charged a $15 administration fee. No refunds will be made for those cancelling during the two weeks before the
conference. No exceptions. Cancellations will be accepted only in writing.

We will have an extensive ASD bookstore at the conference. Purchase orders, Visa, MC, checks and cash are accepted.
Graduate Credit: (Parents not eligible)
Workshop participants may choose to earn graduate credit from Silver Lake College for extending the knowledge and
skills gained in the workshop to an independent and authentic application of theory to practice within his/her relevant
educational and/or professional setting. Some workshops are available for either one (1) OR two (2) graduate credits;
other workshops are available only for one (1) graduate credit. Please refer to the credit registration form and the
syllabi regarding the credit options available.

pieces are covered. Real-life learner examples are illustrated and participants are guided into
creating a plan for an individual they represent for an authentic and meaningful application
that can be utilized immediately.

-Identify important planning areas in transition including higher education, living, work and play
-Describe key milestones in school and the curriculum that contribute to effective transition
-Learn to facilitate future planning processes such as MAPS (McGill Action Planning System)

Teaching Strategies for Autism Spectrum Disorders, with Maria Wheeler, M.Ed.
Some of the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) include limitations of
attention, sensory difficulties, communication impairments, auditory processing problems,
restrictive patterns, excessive anxiety and limited social functioning. These traits significantly
interfere with learning and performance. When limited by the impact of the characteristics of
an ASD, the learner needs to be taught concepts and skills differently than traditional
students.
Learning Objectives for Participants:
-Explore how the traits of ASDs, including Autism, PDD and Asperger Syndrome, interfere
