Adolescence is a time of positive
growth as well as challenges. This
session will provide practical
strategies for teaching teenagers of
all ability levels the necessary life
skills of self-care, self-regulation,
self-advocacy, and self-esteem.
What and how to explain about  
puberty, relationship boundaries
and sexuality will be discussed, as
will common adolescent concerns
such as bullying and masturbation.  
Individualized transition plans will
be covered.  Areas to be
emphasized include: focusing on
the student’s strengths, developing
work/career skills, preparing for
college, different types of
employment structures, employer
needs and the use of mentors.
Increase understanding of the
characteristics of Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that
impact behavior and can foster
communication breakdowns and
feelings of being overwhelmed.  
Learn how to address both the
social and sensory needs of an
individual. Topics will include:
effective behavior interventions,
visual supports for maximizing
communication and minimizing
confusion, and preventing and
dealing with shutdowns and
meltdowns.  This presentation is
appropriate for educators,
therapists, caregivers and parents
of children/teens on the autism
spectrum with behavioral issues.

Continuing Education:
The conference will be worth a
total of 12 contact hours.
Certificates of attendance will be
given out.
Missouri: Although you will
receive a certificate of attendance,
the granting of CEU's will be left to
the discretion of each individual
school district
. If credit is needed
for this workshop, please check
with your district about their CEU
policies before you attend.
Illinois: 12 CPDUs will be offered
for the entire conference (6 for
each day), from the Illinois State
Board of Education.

Meals:
Lunch will be on your own. Continental
breakfast and afternoon snack are
included in your registration fee.

Books:
We will have a large bookstore at the
conference. There will be over 75
different titles related to autism.
Purchase orders are accepted.

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations made within two weeks
of the conference will receive no
reimbursement. Substitutions are
allowed. Cancellations prior to two
weeks to the conference will be
subject to a $30 administration fee-
these will be accepted only in writing.
